The article described how “Almacenes Exito, the largest retail superstore chain in Colombia, claimed that defendants were using a virtual copy of its famed ‘EXITO’ mark on their stores in New York City.”

In the fruit stands of the old city market in Omaha, Neb., where he worked as a child, Joe Monastero earned a nickname.

"Hey bananas, load the truck," the boss's son used to tell the seven-year-old boy. The name stuck

Half a century later, Mr. Monastero fulfilled a dream by opening a restaurant-bar and naming it Joe Banana's. Everything went fine until 1999 when another restaurant-bar opened six blocks away. Its name: Banana Joe's.

Most artists have very little understanding of how to protect their art by copyrights. Some may even feel that it is a compliment to have someone copy their artworks. Yet flattery is hardly felt when profits are made for another party without regard for the artist's efforts. Often, the response of the artist may be along the lines of, "X copied my paintings – so what – I'll make a better one next time" or "I'll make new paintings as fast as they copy them."
